Young Enterprise Regional 2005 End of Year Awards
The 2005 End of year Awards was held at the Stairs complex Thursday October 20th
Guest speaker Tony Laker, from Laker House of Travel shared his “Tale of a Bluff Boy”. and how as a young lad with no special education with a vision, a bold business plan, and plenty of persistence, went on to become the 4th largest Travel Agent in New Zealand, currently employing 32 staff. This was followed by Southland Girls High School “Sting Sensations” showing their presentation as a trail run for the National Finials in Wellington being held the following week.

 | This year Renee Hughes SGHS received the Chamber of Commerce Southland Young Enterpriser of the Year Award for her outstanding efforts. Southland Boys High School Company, Snug as a Rug, received the McIntyre Dick Award for the most Innovative Product, and SBHS Jack Frost took the ANZ Award for Financial Management. The Wrightson’s Top Rural School award went to Menzies College and the Chamber of Commerce Best all round Company was SGHS Sting Sensations.

Jenny Elder from James Hargest College was presented with the Colin Smith Memorial Award for her drive, dedication and commitment over several years.
The evening concluded with supper and networking.
