Stacey Shaw from "Stop-Popz" (Southland Girls High School) and
Ricky Craw from "Illuminate" (James Hargest Collage) were selected
to attend the 2007 Global Enterprise Challenge held in Auckland
from 16th to 18th June.

Eighty Young Enterprise Students (40 from the Auckland region and
40 from the remainder of New Zealand) met at Massey University
where they were put into ten groups and allocated to a corporate
host company.
The first day was the New Zealand Challenge which was the 'practice
run' for the Global Challenge the next day.
This challenge was "To develop your food product so it appeals to
the European Market, while complying with the 'food miles', and
then to present a business plan for it that will grow your business
to $20m in five years". Five hours later the teams presented their
three minute presentations to distinguished guests.
Later that evening they were linked to the Welsh General Assembly
to receive the International Global Challenge which was "To produce
a working model of an innovative model to appeal, inform and
educate 8 - 12 year olds about Global Citizenship".
On Monday the teams spent the day developing their product
concepts, mission statements and business plans ready for
presentation.
The winning team from New Zealand went on to present their
presentation via video email against twelve other countries. The
USA team won with Japan runner up.
Ricky reports that one of the judges came to their team and
told them they thought their product was the best and that if they
were to have continued on with it, they would have invested. High
praise indeed!
As well as the two challenges, the students were treated to
motivational speakers. As Stacey reports "They certainly left a
great footprint in all of our minds in terms of reaching our dreams
and not wasting the precious time we have."

More comment from Stacey "Several seminars were held on marketing,
finance and business planning which were very helpful as many of us
were new to Enterprise. During this experience, I learnt such
valuable skills that I will never lose, including communication,
time management, co-operation, team work, problem solving,
creativity and determination to name but a few. What was
particularly rewarding was seeing our team of strangers turn into a
team of life long friends. I departed Auckland Airport as a
different person having endured…massive skyscrapers, humid
temperatures, traffic jams, and I won't forget having to get up at
5.20am to get anywhere in time!. Needless to say it was the most
worthwhile enterprise experience that a secondary school student
could ever participate in, and I am truly grateful that I had this
extraordinary chance. The Global Enterprise Challenge was one of
the most beneficial and educational, yet fun-filled experiences
that I will ever have."
Ricky reports: "Regardless of the results, it was an amazing
experience, and I know for a fact that this will be the opinion of
everyone who attended. I met some amazing people and made the best
of friends. I seriously recommend this experience to anyone who
ever gets the chance to take it and have absolutely no regrets. It
was by far the best schooling experience I have had in my school
career."
The Chamber congratulates Ricky and Stacey on their tremendous
endeavours and is proud of their two young ambassadors.
