FedEx International Trade Challenge 2009
Training and selection weekend - Auckland 17th – 19th
July.
I will be attending a training weekend for the FedEx
international Trade Challenge in Singapore during August. From the
12 students attending, 6 will be selected to go to the
international event in Singapore.
During the weekend, a challenge will be issued to the 6 teams of 2
and we will have limited time to create a market entry strategy, a
power point presentation and an 8 minute oral presentation based on
a product that will be specified to us and how we should export it
to a particular chosen country. Last year the product was a "bag"
and the specified country was in South America. Research showed
there was a large Muslim population and the international winning
entry developed a bag that turned into a prayer mat as their "added
value" solution and then developed their entry strategy around
this. We have to think about how we would add value and new
features/benefits to a product and how we would appeal to different
target markets in those countries.
We will attend several workshops that will expand our enterprising
knowledge and help us with our task. There will be mentors and
staff to also help us along the way. This is the first year New
Zealand has entered this competition and they have used the
International Enterprise in Action Weekend as a platform to select
students for it.
