Trades Qualification Recognition

TradeQual is designed to acknowledge the efforts and contribution of the trades industry.
– The newly qualified person, for their achievement.
– The employer, for their contribution towards 'on the job' training.
– And the relevant Industry Trade Training Organisation.
- The importance of the trades in the community

A "Trade Recognition Certificate” is presented to persons who meet the following criteria.
-Must have graduated during the year of presentation. at a NZQA level 4 qualification or deemed equivalent. -Must be living and currently working within that trade in Southland.

The Certificate is presented on behalf of the Business community and is signed and presented by the Chamber of Commerce President and the Mayor from the region the graduate comes from.
| TradeQual is an evening of celebration held in October each year and includes an official dinner with entertainment. |
It goes without saying that we all recognise that there is a shortage of qualified and skilled trades persons in all disciplines.
The balance will vary from region to region and company to company but the issue has contributed to the pace of national growth.
The reasons for this are generally well agreed upon, but Chamber Southland has identified elements where we feel we could make a difference to the overall situation.
The general communities acceptance to the value of the trades professions has the unspoken expection that they will be available, to build, to service and to repair and be taken for granted almost in a sub servant way.
For other skilled and qualified people it is the norm to publicly celebrate the achievement of the academic passing of exams when leaving an education institute and entering a white collar profession. It is not the norm to celebrate the achievement of years of academic and skill training to become a fully qualified trades person, other than receiving a certificate in the post from the training provider.
TradeQual is designed to up market the ‘Trades’ as an area for professional career options and place trades in the mindset of the public and students at a well deserved higher value in status.
