Tuesday April 2nd, over thirty people were treated to a most interesting update on the position of New Zealand in the World Economy by Dr John Edwards Phd. Dr Edwards is Adjunct Professor at the Curtin Institute of Public Policy, Curtin University and is Sydney based Chief Economist for Australia and New Zealand with HSBC.
| Dr Edwards highlighted where New Zealand stands in a global position, in comparison with the other powers of United States, China, India and Australia. He stated that wealth has increased more over the last ten years than any other period in history. | |
Unfortunately for the exporters present, he was unable to offer much in the way of encouragement to them. His prediction is that things will stay the way they are for some time to come. A bit of a paradox really, when 2007 is the Year of the Exporter!
 | Garry Dean, Senior Manager, Treasury Sales spoke briefly, from his perspective, confirming that he also could foresee no great change in the interim.
|
There were a great many questions asked to the speakers, and the discussion could have continued a lot longer.
