HARREX GROUP
BUSINESS AFTER FIVE
GORE FUNCTION
On Thursday 26 February 2009, Harrex Group hosted a Business After
Five function organised by the Eastern Southland Committee.Over
twenty people attended the event.
After enjoying some great refreshments from Dish of Invercargill,
Brendon Harrex spoke about how and why Harrex Group was formed and
the valuable lessons he and the team have learnt so far.
|
He explained his passion for value based pricing and how this gives
more certainty to customers than a time based billing system used
by traditional professional service firms. He challenged members to
look for opportunities and that it is important to take time out
for thinking and planning. If you have done the planning upfront,
you are in a position to identify and act on opportunities when
they arise.
Brendon discussed the seven critical issues facing the owners of
small to medium sized businesses being:
• Spending too much time working in and not on their business
• Struggling to attract, retain and motivate staff
• Gen Y do not see owners as role models
• Record numbers are planning to sell
• Generational successors are not interested
• Are not prepared for succession
• Unaware of their business value gap
Brendon explained the Staff Value Program which Harrex Group can
assist clients with. It offers an innovative salary package to
employees that rewards performance and professional
development.
Brendon summarised by saying that it is critical to understand what
your customers are buying and that you can’t be all things to all
people, so don’t try. Make time to plan and think and you will be
ready when opportunity arises.
