Southland Export Dinner September Friday 17th 2004
Over 200 members of the Southland business community attended the
Southland Export Forum Biennial Dinner Fare held on Friday, 17th
September at Southland Boys High School. The evening combined
scrumptious cuisine created by Graham Hawkes of Flannagans, using
the finest Southland export quality products and outstanding
entertainment was provided by ‘Revue’, a division of the Musical
Theatre Group managed by Neale Smith.
Two special export awards were also presented during the course
of the evening. The first award given was in recognition of His
Worship the Mayor, Tim Shadbolt’s continued contribution to
promoting the region and in particular his promotion of export
activity from Southland. A delighted Tim gladly accepted the award
and expressed his desire to see more export processed from the
region and to make the most of our greatest export - the people of
Southland.
The second award, ‘Emerging Exporter’, jointly presented by the
Southland Export Forum and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, was in
recognition of exporters whose export trade had grown and expanded
over a period of time. The winner of this award was the New
Zealand Ostrich Export Co Ltd (NZOEC) & Ostex Corporation
Ltd. NZOEC is New Zealand’s largest Ostrich Exporter and
exports under the brand name ‘z’lana’
The evening was very much enjoyed by the guests present and the
entertainment provided by Revue deserved the standing ovation they
received. Special mention must also go to the two male volunteers
from the audience who quickly learnt the dance steps of a very
famous Joe Cocker song – something about leaving your hat on?
