Export Year07

What is was Export Year?
The government has designated 2007 Export Year.
Export Year provides a focus on New Zealand exporters and the challenge New Zealand faces in improving its export performance and increasing exports as a percentage of GDP. It is focused on increasing New Zealand’s sustainable export base, through supporting both new and existing exporters.
Export Year 2007 will run through the duration of 2007, though many of the initiatives will go on beyond that. Export Year 2007 aims to increase New Zealand’s long term export performance.
It is a long term objective that seeks to reverse trends which show New Zealand’s export growth slipping well behind other developed countries.
Export Year 2007 is about diversifying our exports and about increasing the number of companies that sell products and services offshore.
Only 17% of New Zealand Business is exporting product |
| 151 companies are responsible for 75 percent of our exports. |
60% of exported products are agriculture based |
Improved export receipts will strengthen the New Zealand economy. A stronger economy benefits all New Zealanders. As businesses flourish, communities flourish – and that means improved standards of living and strong public services.
There is no single answer to increasing exports. The issues are complex and the answers lie jointly with the Government and business.
Government has determined four broad areas for work:
Raising business awareness of how critical exporting is to New Zealand's prosperity, and encouraging higher export aspirations within businesses |
Building export capability so businesses are ready to tackle export markets |
Helping businesses identify and realise export opportunities |
| Ensuring consistency and alignment of government policies and processes that affect exporters |
