
Being a Board Member.
Being a Board member of the Chamber of Commerce is a prestige position that can have many rewards.
But this is not the onerous task that some may think.
The roll of the Board member.
In general the Board is empowered by the membership with the governance of the Chamber, the control of its assets and the direction and administration of its affairs. Under its direction the Board appoints a C.E.O to carry out the business of the Chamber.
Meeting schedule:
19.3.1 “Board meetings may be called as and when necessary”
The Board would normally conducted 4 meetings per year with an Executive Committee consisting of the President, Vice President, Imt past President, 2 Directors and the C.E.O meeting every 2nd to 3rd month with the purpose of overseeing in accordance to the Boards instruction the day to day running of the Chamber .
In addition to the above a Board member may be asked to represent the Chamber on a community committee, a Trust or at an official function with politicians and other dignitaries, they may also be asked to give a thank you or an introduction at a Chamber Event.
Nomination:
The Board is made up of 10 members and is comprised of 6 positions elected by the general membership with the addition of the Chair from each sectional committee. The Chair of these committees is elected by the relevant committee members.
Chair: position available each election by general member vote
Vice Chair: position available each election by general member vote
Int Past Chair: by default
Board member 1 position available every 2 years election by general member vote
Board member 2 position available every 2 years election by general member vote
Board member 3 position available each election by general member vote
Board member 4 position available each election by general member vote
Eastern Southland (chair) seat: position available each election by section member vote
Southland Export Forum (chair) seat: position available each election by section member vote
Southland Manufactures Forum (chair) seat: position available each election by section member vote
The 2 longest sitting Board members, the Chair and vice Chair positions (4) are available for election each year from the general membership.
Any (employed) representative of a financial member of Chamber Southland may be nominated.
Each financial member at the time of elections may vote once for each seat.
Nominations are called 21 day before the AGM and close 14 days before the AGM.
Voting is prior to the AGM by electronic or postal vote as decided by the current Board
Voting closes 24 hours before the AGM with the results announced at the AGM
