Meridian Energy presented their Wind Farm Proposal called Project White Hill, at the Invercargill Workmen’s Club on Tuesday 28 September 2004, to interested Chamber of Commerce members from Invercargill, Gore Wind farms are a proven, environmentally responsible and economically viable means of generating renewable energy. Around the world, wind farms have made the transition from the realm of alternative energy to that of mainstream large energy producers. Other forms of alternative energy such as solar and biodiesel have not yet made this transition.Meridian Energy has been investigating potential wind farm sites around the country and has identified Southland as a region with a strong natural wind resource ideal for power generation. Meridian Energy is consulting with interested parties before applying for resource consent to develop a wind farm that is planned for the White Hill area west of Lumsden and south-east of Mossburn, on forestry land, and which will be known as Project White Hill.Before and after the presentation Meridian networked with all the members and was generous with their hospitality.
